October Morning

Hello everyone. The year is moving along so quickly. We have been lucky in the New England area to have some great weather. The tree colors in Connecticut have been amazing. I drove to camp last weekend and going through Middlebury was pure joy. It was a good time to roll down the windows and enjoy the scenery. The campus looked great in the fall, but it felt empty without everyone there.

I was talking with a friend the other day about camp. She asked me what made Campus Kids different and special from other programs. That is actually a question that I get asked often from new families looking at Campus Kids. Well, the answer is really easy. Campus Kids CT has always been about having a great collection of campers and a truly gifted group of staff members. Then we mix everyone together and let the fun happen. It always seems to happen so easily and smoothly. I know that CKCT is lucky to have so many great individuals who care so much about camp.

Kathryn and I have been very busy in the camp office. We are already working on plans for next summer. We are getting very close to sending out applications for first year "Staff Assistant" positions. So if you are reading this blog, (I am impressed) and have just graduated camp and are interested in applying for a position please send me an email ASAP. I will send you all the information and the application. The SA program has been an amazing part of camp. The Staff Assistants work so hard during the summer and really help to facilitate many important parts of camp. I think we are going to set a record for the most people applying in one year. I know the decisions of whom to hire are going to be very difficult. I wish I could hire everyone, but we do have very limited space for this summer.

As you may have heard we are moving our reunion site and date. Camp will send you official invitations and information very shortly. So be on the lookout for that. I am really looking forward to that day. I love seeing everyone in the middle of winter. Hopefully we will have good weather on that day. I am excited for a little home run derby action in the batting cages.

Another Grapevine (our camp newsletter) is in production. If you want to contribute anything to the Grapevine, send it to Kathryn or myself ASAP. We would love to hear from you.

I am doing a few tours this weekend so I will get the opportunity to reminisce as I stroll through campus. Although the University is in session you can still see some signs of Campus Kids...like, I left our radio antennae on top of South and some picnic tables are around the grounds. Maybe I will take a quick run of the bases and think about the camper/staff softball camp.

Campus Kids CT first Blog 10/3/08

I feel like Captain Kirk on the USS Enterprise. Do I need to enter a star date? So I guess the future has arrived as CKCT enters the blogging world. I may be calling many of you to ask for help with all the advanced features. Well, I do like to write and I certainly love camp. So hopefully I can merge the two and prevent you from falling asleep on your keyboard. I will attempt to update this a few times each month. All outside input and contributions are always welcome. While I am sure most of my ramblings will be about camp, I cannot be held accountable if non-camp topics are covered. Like the other night my 13 month old son, Jake, decided to stay up most of the night. While attempting to lull him to sleep, I watched Forrest Gump for the 100th time- a truly great movie that should be a standard view at least once a year.



So onto more important stuff. We are moving our Campus Kids CT reunion to a new location and a new date. After eight years we will not be at New Roc. Kathryn and I figured it was time to try something new. We researched many options and we feel like we have chosen a great new place. So the CKCT reunion will be on December 6, at Sportime USA in Elmsford, NY. The party will run from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM. We will have exclusive use of batting cages, pool tables, climbing wall, laser tag, some small indoor rides, and breakfast. There is also a large arcade and everyone will receive tokens. Of course we will mail you invitations and more information about the party. So there is your inside scoop for anyone who is reading this blog.



This was kind of fun. I look forward to my second attempt. It was not as painful as I thought. So my future has arrived. Full Warp speed ahead.
